The MIDC police arrested three men on Sunday evening for allegedly killing a 31-year-old woman in front of her son at her Andheri East apartment on Thursday evening. Incidentally, the police traced the men based on the SSC marksheet of one of the accused that they had left behind.

On Thursday, the police received a call at 4.18 pm that a woman residing at Takshshila building located at gate number 1 of Mahakali in Andheri East was being beaten up by four unidentified men. When the police reached the spot they found that the woman Aruna Pandey (31) and her son Himanshu (12) had been attacked by the three men.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (MIDC) Mohan Wadkar said the child said the men were asking his mother to give them the Rs 15 lakh his father had borrowed. “The father told us that he had not borrowed any money. We then searched the flat and found a plastic bag with an empty box in it. There was a paper in the bag which was a SSC marksheet. We checked with the school and learnt that the marksheet belonged to a Jogeshwari resident,” said Wadkar.

When the police detained and questioned the owner of the marksheet,he broke down and confessed to killing Aruna along with two accomplices. He said they used to enter houses when the men were away and demand money from the women saying they had given the cash to their husbands. They then robbed the house and fled.

Zuber Ahemad (23),Kartik Prasad (23) and Yusuf Hussain (25) have since been arrested.
