Man who raped and killed 5-year-old in Mumbai gets life imprisonment

According to submissions made by special public prosecutors V D More and Sureeta Singh, in 2019, the child lived on a street in Mahim along with her parents and two siblings. On February 6, 2019, the girl’s father woke up around 5 am to drink water and did not see his daughter. He woke up others and they began looking for the child.

On not being able to locate her, they approached the police. On the next day, the police informed them that their child was found in an unconscious state, the girl’s father told the court. They went to the hospital where she was taken. The family was informed that she had passed away.

The post mortem found that the cause of death of the child was asphyxia due to strangulation. The child also suffered injuries to her private parts. The police filed a case of rape and murder. Among the main evidence that the police relied on was the CCTV footage from a nearby camera where the accused could be seen with the victim.

The prosecutors had also submitted that a witness had seen the accused with the victim.

The court said that various factors including the CCTV evidence were enough proof to convict the accused. It said that the accused shall remain in jail for the remainder of his natural life.
