Man made hoax bomb call to delay train

A 40-year-old man was arrested on Monday night for allegedly making a hoax bomb threat in order to delay a train.

A 40-year-old man was arrested on Monday night for allegedly making a hoax bomb threat in order to delay a train. The accused made a call to the police control room claiming that a bomb was planted in the Mumbai-Amritsar Golden Temple Mail.

The information was immediately passed on to the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS),Crime Branch and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS).

The accused,Mukesh Govardhandas Khupchandani,who is a resident of Ulhasnagar had missed the train and wanted to delay it in order to board it from Borivali.

“After receiving the call,the train was stopped at the Borivali railway station and all the compartments were searched by the bomb disposal squad,but nothing was found. We then immediately gave the mobile number from which the call was made to the Borivali police. The accused was found sitting in one of the compartments in the train. The train was then allowed to depart at 11.55 pm and Khupchandani was arrested,” said an officer from the Borivali railway police.

According to the police,Khupchandani was to board the train from Mumbai Central railway station,but missed it.

The officer said,“He then took a local train from Dadar and decided to board the train from Borivali station. But on reaching Andheri,he suffered some health problem and was taken to the station master’s office.”

The officer added,“After he lost all hope of catching the train,he decided to make a fake bomb threat to halt the train for a longer period at the Borivali station. He made a call around 10 pm and took a local to Borivali,where he managed to board the mail.”
