The chawl where Subodh was staying, is soon going under redevelopment. The house is in the name of Subodh’s mother. In the redevelopment scheme, the chawl residents would get a new house in the new cooperative housing society. For that, the developer had asked all the residents to vacate their homes, the police said.

All the residents were given a total of Rs 2.32 lakh as rent to live in other places. The amount was directly credited to the resident’s account.

According to the police, Deepak, a drunkard, was opposing the redevelopment project. And because of this, he would often have fought with his brother.

On Tuesday, he allegedly hit Subodh on his head with a blunt object. Subodh sustained serious injury near his right eyebrow and fell down. He was immediately rushed to Jogeshwari trauma care centre, where doctors declared him dead, said a police officer.
