The Sakinaka police arrested a man for allegedly assaulting the principal of All India Education Society High School on Monday.
The police said accused Vinay Deshmane allegedly slapped Principal K D Jose in his office at 4.15 pm Monday. They said Deshamane had gone to the school along with a delegation of parents led by local MLA Arif Nasim Khan to meet the principal to address the various admission-related problems some of the parents in the locality faced.
“We arrested Deshmane for the assault. In his statement to the police, he claimed that he was inconvenienced by the admission policy of the school. Khan had left the office when the principal was assaulted,” said Avinash Dharmadhikari, senior inspector.
Jose claimed that a crowd of 40 people walked into his office and made various demands regarding the school’s admission policy. The police are now taking everyone’s statements. “Deshmane was with me and it was a scheduled meeting with the principal. We were discussing the grievances of the parents. I did not see any assault on the principal,” said Khan, when contacted.
Jose, meanwhile, denied receiving any complaints from parents regarding the admission policy and said he was “shocked” when people walked into his office.
