In yet another tree-falling incident,a 41-year-old died after a coconut tree fell on him on Thursday morning. Vaidya Arya,a businessman and an IIM Ahmedabad graduate, was taking a morning walk in the Coconut Park in Andheri (W) when the incident occurred. He was rushed to the nearby Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, but was declared dead. The body was taken to Cooper Hospital in Vile Parle for postmortem where doctors said he had suffered severe injuries on his head and chest. This is the second such incident this year. A woman and her child were crushed to death when an old banyan tree collapsed outside the CR2 Mall in Nariman Point last month. Despite civic bodys claim of carrying out regular pruning and maintenance of trees, nothing was done in the garden, said Devendra Shridhar, corporator of the area. Deputy Municipal Commissioner (gardens) Suhas Karvande said the civic body had not pruned coconut trees because chances of them collapsing were very few. We remove ripe fruits from these trees,so that they dont fall on anyone. In this case,we are trying to find out the possible cause as it was neither raining nor was the tree leaning due to weight, he said.
