Man beaten death after neighbour suspects him to be a thief in Mahim

According to the police, on Wednesday night, Shaikh, along with his friend Vyanka, had gone to building number 21 in Fisher Colony, Mahim, for consuming liquor.

Ansari, who resides nearby, suspected that Shaikh had come there with an intention of theft and started allegedly brutally beating him with a bamboo stick. Seeing this, Shaikh’s friend Vyanka escaped the spot out of fear, states the FIR.

Shaikh sustained multiple internal and external injuries, but he somehow managed to reach his home.

On Thursday at 1.30 am, when Shaikh’s brother Khwaja, who is a driver by profession, returned home, he saw Shaikh was badly injured and lying unconscious with blood stains all over the floor.

Khwaja splashed water on Shaikh’s face and asked him if he had an accident or if someone had assaulted him. Shaikh gained consciousness and told him that Ansari assaulted him, suspecting that he (Shaikh) and his friend had gone there for theft, states the FIR.

As Shaikh lost consciousness again, Khwaja along with the family, with the help of police, rushed him to Bhabha Hospital. After more than six hours of treatment, Shaikh died of serious multiple injuries.

On Khwaja’s complaint, Mahim police registered a murder case against Ansari and subsequently arrested him on Thursday.

He has been charged with section 103 (1) (murder) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), a police officer said
