After fire at Make in India event: Fire marshals appointed, signboards with fire safety tips put up
Delegates who reached the venue, Monday morning, were welcomed with signboards, outside each conference room, reading ‘Tips on Fire Safety’.
THE FIRE at Sunday’s Make in India event at Girgaum Chowpatty prompted authorities to enhance fire safety measures at the main venue at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). Delegates who reached the venue, Monday morning, were welcomed with signboards, outside each conference room, reading ‘Tips on Fire Safety’. The boards had information on emergency exits and assembly points as well as the contact numbers of quick reaction teams at the venue. Apart from these teams, authorities also assigned 26 fire marshals at the venue through a private firm. These marshals were assigned in the conference rooms and the entry-exit points.
“We were called on Sunday night and asked to come to this venue on Monday. We have been giving fire tools like an axe to break the glass on the sprinklers as well as extinguishers as preliminary precaution in case a fire takes place,” said Mustaqim Kureshi, one of the fire marshals at the venue.

Their duty also includes ensuring immediate shutting down of power supply, if a fire breaks out. Kureshi added that he along with his colleagues from a private firm called Magnum fire services were asked to be at the venue for the next four days.
Over 1000 delegates, including representatives from 68 countries, are attending the Make in India week at BKC. After the fire in Girgaum, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that there would be additional fire safety precautions at the venue of the week-long event.
