Mahayuti wins all 6 assembly seats of Thane constituency: CM Shinde leads the charge, wins by 1.2 lakh votes

Amid the Mahayuti basking in the glory of its big sweep across the state, yet another celebration unfolded in Thane as Eknath Shinde clinched his home turf seat of Kopri Pachpakhadi by a comfortable margin of over 1.20 lakh votes, retaining the seat for the fourth consecutive term. In what has further cemented Shinde’s dominance over his bastion of Thane, the Mahayuti won all six assembly seats of the Thane constituency on Saturday.

The Kopri Pachpakhadi seat has traditionally been a Shinde stronghold. with him winning the assembly seat ever since its formation in 2009. On Saturday, Shinde continued to exert his dominance over the seat by winning comfortably against the Sena UBT candidate and his mentor, Anand Dighe’s nephew Kedar Dighe.

On Saturday, Shinde defeated Kedar Dighe by a margin of 1,20,717 lakh by polling a cumulative total of 1.59 lakh votes while Dighe trailed with a vote count of 38,383.

While his political engagements veered him away from Thane throughout the day, his aides said that he was slated to arrive for a celebration at Anand Ashram in Thane’s Tembhi Naka to celebrate his victory. By Saturday afternoon, Sena party functionaries started flocking Anand Ashram, also a key Sena office, in preparation of the celebrations.

In Thane city, BJP’s Sanjay Kelkar defeated the Sena UBT candidate Rajan Vichare by a margin of 58,253 votes. Meanwhile, MNS’ Avinash Jadhav trailed third with a total of 42,592 votes.

In Ovala Majiwada seat too, Shiv Sena’s Pratap Sarnaik defeated UBT’s Naresh Manera by a margin of over 1 lakh.

Meanwhile, BJP’s Narendra Mehta clinched the Mira-Bhayandar seat by defeating the sitting MLA Geeta Jain, who was running as an independent candidate, as well as Congress’ Syed Muzaffar Hussain by a significant margin.

In Airoli and Belapur, Mahayuti continued to dominate. In Airoli, BJP’s Ganesh Naik of Mahayuti defeated independent Vijay Chougule by a margin of over 91,000 votes, in Belapur, BJP’s Manda Mhatre defeated NCP SP’s Sandeep Ganesh Naik by a margin of 377 votes in a neck-and-neck fight.
