Maharashtra’s Mira-Bhayandar gets own sub-RTO with city code MH-58
With the addition of the new RTO in Mumbai Metropolitan Region, the total number of deputy regional transport offices in Maharashtra has increased from 33 to 34.

Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik on Friday approved a new sub-regional transport office (sub-RTO) for Mira-Bhayandar with city code MH-58. The new office will be located in Uttan in Thane district and will cater to residents of the area by providing essential transport-related services.
With this, the total number of deputy RTO offices in Maharashtra has increased from 33 to 34, apart from the existing 24 full-fledged RTOs. In the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), the count of transport offices has now reached 11, comprising six RTOs and five deputy RTOs.
“March 1 is celebrated as RTO Foundation Day. On its eve, the state transport ministry has given good news for the people of Mira-Bhayandar. The state’s 58th sub-regional transport office will be opened in Mira-Bhayandar. An order to this effect has been issued by the transport office today (February 28),” Sarnaik said.
The new office is expected to ease congestion at the existing transport offices in the region and streamline transport-related administration and benefit vehicle owners, drivers, and businesses in Mira-Bhayandar, officials said.
The state government has acquired a plot in Uttan for setting up the new office, they added.
A sub-RTO plays a crucial role in issuing driving licences, conducting vehicle fitness inspections, verifying insurance and pollution tests, collecting road taxes, and allocating personalised registration numbers.
Sarnaik emphasized that the initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to improve transport facilities in rapidly growing urban areas.
