“As part of our effort to nurture national pride among students, this year’s Independence Day celebrations will include patriotic-themed drills performed by students,” Bhuse said. He added that efforts would be made to increase the number of NCC training centres in the state and encourage more schools to participate. The state also plans to approach the central government for support in expanding the programme’s reach.

The minister further mentioned that retired army personnel could be enlisted to help train students, with support from the state’s ex-servicemen welfare board.

Maharashtra currently has 7 NCC groups and 63 units, covering 1,726 schools and colleges, with over 1.14 lakh students receiving training. They revealed that plans are in place to expand 10 more centres soon, which will add an additional 20,314 students to the programme.
