Maharashtra State Skill University to be named after Ratan Tata: State Govt
Last week, Maharashtra Cabinet passed a proposal to request the Centre to award the Bharat Ratna to Ratan Tata.

Maharashtra State Skills University (MSSU) will be named after Ratan Tata to honour the late industrialist who passed away on October 9, the State Government announced on Monday.
This comes days after the Maharashtra Cabinet passed a proposal to request the Centre to award the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award, to Ratan Tata.
“Industrialist Ratan Tata contributed immensely to India’s industrial development. He not only provided employment but also encouraged the start-up systems, and promoted innovation. The varsity’s vision aligns greatly with the legendary Ratan Tataji,” said Dr Apoorva Palkar, Vice-Chancellor, MSSU.
“And we are very fortunate to be named after him. While this is a great tribute to the industrial icon as in the years to come he will be remembered, the new nomenclature will definitely add value to the works of MSSU which is a technologically driven university working toward creating skilled manpower as well as entrepreneurs for the future,” added Palkar.
Set up in 2022, MSSU is the first government-run skill university offering multiple skill-oriented courses along with training for entrepreneurship for interested students. Headquartered in Mumbai, MSSU is enabled with state-wide jurisdiction, allowing it to take professional, industry-oriented courses to the interiors of Maharashtra and also encouraging entrepreneurship among youth in rural set-ups.
To create highly skilled and employable youth, the university works in integration with the industry. Apart from various skill development and professional courses, MSSU also focuses on creating entrepreneurs by encouraging start-up culture, providing incubation facilities and helping budding entrepreneurs raise funds.
