Maharashtra to elect Lok Sabha candidates in 5 phases; Mumbai will go to polls on May 20

While the first phase of the Lok Sabha election in Maharashtra will be held on April 19, the fifth and final phase on May 20 will see the highest number of constituencies (13) going to polls.

Maharashtra will elect 48 members to the Lok Sabha in an election spread over five phases that will be held from April 19 to May 20 this year, with Mumbai residents voting on May 20.

The first phase on April 19 will see five constituencies in Vidarbha go to polls, including Ramtek, Nagpur, Bhandara-Gondia, Gadchiroli-Chimur and Chandrapur. In the second phase, eight constituencies in the Vidarbha and Marathwada regions – Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Yavatmal Washim, Hingoli, Nanded, Parbhani – will vote on April 26.

Eleven constituencies will exercise their franchise in the third phase on May 7, including Raigad, Baramati, Osmanabad, Latur, Solapur, Madha, Sangli, Satara, Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, Kolhapur and Hatkanangle. On May 13, the fourth phase will see polling in 11 seats, including Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Raver, Jalna, Aurangabad, Maval, Pune, Shirur, Ahmednagar, Shirdi and Beed.

The fifth phase, to be held on May 20, will see the highest number of constituencies going to polls with 13 seats at stake. This includes Dhule, Dindori, Nashik, Palghar, Bhiwandi, Kalyan, Thane, and six seats in Mumbai – Mumbai North, Mumbai North-West, Mumbai North-East, Mumbai North-Central, Mumbai South-Central and Mumbai South.

The previous Lok Sabha election in 2019 saw Maharashtra voting in four phases, while in 2014 it was held in three phases.
