Maharashtra likely to get 73 new schools: Most of them English-medium, 28 in Mumbai
The school education department had received 241 proposals for both new schools and the extension of existing ones

In addition, 54 existing schools are likely to be allowed to expand by including higher classes. Of these, 46 are English-medium schools, eight are Marathi-medium, and two are Urdu-medium schools.
The school education department had received 241 proposals for both new schools and the extension of existing ones. After thorough scrutiny, 127 of these proposals have been sanctioned, for 73 new schools and to extend 54 existing ones.
“List of these sanctioned proposals has been posted in public domain now to invite objections, if any. Following this, a final list of recommended proposals will be submitted to the Ministry of School Education, which will make the final decision,” an official from the department said.
Among the 73 new schools, Mumbai will see the highest number with 28 new schools, but only one among them will be a Marathi-medium school. Pune and Nashik will each get nine new English-medium schools.
Amravati will have eight new schools, including two Marathi-medium schools, while Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar will have seven new schools, with two in Marathi-medium. Kolhapur will get six new schools, of which three willl be Marathi-medium, and Latur will receive five schools, which will have English as the medium of instruction.
Among all 73 new schools, 60 are to offer Maharashtra State Board curriculum. As many as 11 schools will be affiliated to the CBSE board, whereas one each will be under the ICSE and Cambridge boards.
