A delegation of Opposition leaders met Governor Ramesh Bais at Raj Bhavan on Saturday.
“Two months ago, we had met the Governor and apprised him about the law and order situation in the state. The Governor had then called the Director General of Police and instructed him to improve the situation, but now a new Director General of Police has come and the law and order situation has further deteriorated. The Director General of Police has herself admitted that the public’s trust in the police has decreased,” said Congress leader Nana Patole after meeting Governor Bais.
The delegation submitted a letter to Bais demanding President’s rule in the state.
He said that Former Shiv Sena corporator Abhishek Ghosalkar was shot dead, journalist Nikhil Wagle was assaulted in the presence of police in Pune while BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad fired at two people inside the police station.
“After religious tension at Mira Road on January 22, government bulldozers demolished the houses of the poor. Jalgaon BJP corporator More was shot. A youth was killed in broad daylight in Yavatmal city. Arms are being found in the hands of children, large stockpiles of illegal arms are coming into the state,” he said.
