Lodha calls for extending Metro operating hours ahead of Diwali

In a letter to the Commissioner of MMRDA, Cabinet and Guardian Minister (Mumbai Suburbs) Mangal Prabhat Lodha has sought an extension of Metro service hours from 10 pm to midnight between November 11 and 15, to accommodate the higher passenger demand.

"With suburban railway services in Mumbai disrupted due to railway track maintenance work from October 26 to November 5, many local trains have been cancelled," Lodha said. (Express file)

To accommodate the festival rush the state government has urged MMRDA to extend metro service hours due to the upcoming festival of Diwali which falls on November 12. In a letter to the Commissioner of MMRDA, Cabinet and Guardian Minister (Mumbai Suburbs) Mangal Prabhat Lodha has sought an extension of Metro service hours from 10 pm to midnight between November 11 and 15, to accommodate the higher passenger demand.

“With suburban railway services in Mumbai disrupted due to railway track maintenance work from October 26 to November 5, many local trains have been cancelled,” he said. Due to this, Lodha said, “more people are traveling by Mumbai suburban metro.”

Earlier during Navratri, the Minister stated in the letter, MMRDA had also accommodated our requests and increased the operating hours of the metro, which came as a huge relief for citizens.
