On June 25,2009,the world was stunned by the sudden death of Michael Jackson. A year later,his fans in Mumbai will join millions across the world in paying tribute to the pop icon and celebrating his genius.

All through his career,Jackson had kicked up a frenzy with his musical talent and mean dance moves. So it’s hardly surprising that while Zenzi Mills hosted a concert by a Mumbai-based band Tough on

Tobacco on Wednesday evening,Aanchal Gupta of Arts in Motion Dance Studio is organising a special dance workshop for all his die-hard fans on Friday. The band performed the not-so-popular MJ tracks along with with their favourites. For the dance workshop,Gupta has gone a step ahead. “We will have instructors conduct the workshop who will teach the MJ dance moves. We will also provide our participants with free T-shirts and CDs.” she says.

Melvin Louis’ Dance Inc plans to take their tribute workshop to different venues of the city between June 25 to July 1. The participants will learn much-celebrated dance moves on famous MJ tracks like Dangerous,Thriller,Black or White and Bille Jean. The entry fee is Rs 400 and the participants will receive momentos like MJ postcards and music CDs.

The event that will combine MJ inspired dance,music and fashion is Can’t stop dancing: A tribute to the King of Pop,Michael Jackson at Shanmukhananda Auditorium,Sion,on Friday evening. Choreographer Rahul Saxenna will dance to MJ’s 10 most famous tracks. Television actor,Prachee Shah too will be seen grooving to MJ’s classics while Raageshwari Loomba will belt out three rock numbers. Adding to all the glitz will be designer Archana Kochhar. She will showcase an exclusive MJ collection where Salim-Sulaiman will be the showstoppers. “The collection called ‘Black and White’ is inspired by the dual life which Jackson led. I have re-interpreted the Michael look and not literally done a costume take,” says Kochhar.
