The Maharashtra government is facing an uphill task of linking 27 lakh bank accounts with the Aadhaar numbers of the account holders within the next four days.

These bank accounts are of 27 lakh beneficiaries of the Chief Minister’s Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme and if they do not link their bank accounts with the Aadhaar number before August 17, when the scheme will be launched, the beneficiaries may miss the monthly amount.

Aditi Tatkare, state minister for Women and Child Development, has instructed district administrations to launch intensive campaigns to facilitate Aadhar linkage for these bank accounts.

“We need to run a special campaign to ensure that no beneficiary is excluded from this scheme due to linkage issues. District administrations should extend all necessary support, and if needed, local bankers should be involved,” she said during a review meeting of the Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme.

Tatkare also announced that a state-level launch event for the scheme will take place in Pune on August 17. “Beneficiaries who have already linked their bank accounts with Aadhaar will receive the first two installments under this scheme. For those who applied before July 31 but have not yet completed the linking, the benefits will be provided once the linkage is finalised,” she added.

Each district will have a guardian minister presiding over the programme, with local MPs and MLAs stepping in where the minister is unavailable.

Additionally, Tatkare revealed that the eligibility verification process for applications received after August 1 will begin on Thursday.

“The application process is not time-bound and will continue beyond August 31. Late applicants will receive benefits accordingly,” she said.
