An APMC labourer lost his life after being hit by a tempo on Saturday evening. The accident happened on the Vashi-Sion Highway at around 4 pm when the deceased Tanaji Sitaram Chalke (42) and his co-worker Alka Kamble were returning from work. Chalke,a resident of Mankhurd, was walking on the sidewalk when a tempo came speeding along the road and crashed into him.

Chalke was immediately rushed to the Sion Hospital with severe head injuries and died while undergoing treatment. “We have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the tempo driver, who is yet to be traced. According to Kamble’s statement of complaint, the tempo reportedly didn’t have a number plate which has delayed the tracking process,” said Vijay Joshi, station’s senior police inspector Trombay police.

A similar incident was reported on New Year’s Eve when a motorcylist collided with an autorickshaw killing a two and a half year-old girl. The Trombay police arrested the motorcyclist for rash driving and causing death due to negligence.
