(Express photo/ Sankhadeep Banerjee)The Mumbai police Monday arrested 12 members of Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena for allegedly ransacking The Habitat studio after video clips of comedian Kunal Kamra’s controversial ‘gaddar’ jibe’ against their party chief went viral.
Sources in the Mumbai police confirmed that 12 people, including Yuva Sena functionary Rahool Kanal, have been arrested. They said they were taken to a court in Bandra by the police.
The Khar police booked 19 people, including Kanal, Kunal Sarmalkar, Akshay Panvelkar, Govind Padi, Rahul Turbadkar, Vilas Chavari, Amin Sheikh, Sameer Mahapadi, Himanshu, Shashank Kode, Sandeep Malap, Ganesh Rane, Shobha Palve, Krishna Thakur, Pawan Jyot Sethi, Kalpesh, Qureshi Hujef, and Chand Sheikh. They also booked 15 to 20 other unknown activists.
The police have charged them under sections 132, 189(2), 189(3), 190, 191(2), 324(5), 324(6), 223, 351(2), 352, 333, 37(1), and 135 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
Dozens of Shinde Sena activists allegedly closed an ongoing show, forced the audience to vacate the studio, ransacked the premises, damaged the property, blackened its walls, and wrote Kamra’s name with black ink. They also allegedly manhandled some staff and workers at the studio.
The Khar police registered a suo-moto First Information Report (FIR) against Kanal and others early Monday for allegedly vandalising The Habitat studio where Kamra performed the controversial show.
