3 more FIRs filed against comedian Kunal Kamra in Maharashtra for remarks against Eknath Shinde
Comedian Kunal Kamra has secured interim anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court in the first FIR filed against him. The Mumbai police may issue fresh summons to Kamra.

Three more FIRs have been registered against comedian Kunal Kamra in Maharashtra for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Kamra had courted controversy for his ‘gaddar (traitor)’ jibe at Shinde.
The fresh cases were registered in different parts of Maharashtra and, on Friday, were transferred to Khar police station for further investigation, a police source confirmed to The Indian Express.
The Khar police station is already probing a criminal defamation case against Kamra over his remark against Shinde and has issued two summonses, asking Kamra to join the investigation. Kamra had sought a week, but the police rejected his request.
On Friday, the comedian managed to secure interim anticipatory bail from the Madras High Court until April 7.
The first FIR against Kamra was filed based on a complaint lodged by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel.
The three new FIRs were also filed by Shiv Sena members – Mayur Borse from Manmad, Nashik; Sanjay Bhujbal from Jalgaon Jamod, Buldhana; and Sunil Jadhav from Nandgaon Manmad, Nashik.
The party workers have alleged in the FIRs that Kamra “defamed the moral conduct” of Shinde, despite the fact that he was the deputy chief minister of Maharashtra. “He also created hatred between the two political parties by making derogatory statements,” the FIRs have stated.
The fresh FIRs have also been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 353(1)(b), 353(2) (statements conducing to public mischief), and 356(2) (defamation), said a police officer.
Since Kamra has secured relief from the Madras High Court in the first case, the Mumbai police may soon issue fresh summons to the comedian in the new cases.
A controversy broke out over Kamra’s stand-up comedy act titled ‘Naya Bharat’ in February at Habitat Studio in Hotel Unicontinental in Khar after its video was uploaded on YouTube last Saturday.
Kamra shared a clip from the show on his YouTube channel and social media platforms. After the video clip went viral, Shiv Sena workers vandalised the studio. Following this, the police registered a suo motu case against the Sena workers and subsequently arrested 12 of them. They were later released on bail.
Kamra has stated in social media posts that he will not apologise for his remarks. Later, he also shared more videos on his social media platforms, criticising the government and ministers.
