Known to keep a low profile, new BMC chief has worked in offices of three successive CMs
Known for his low-profile style of functioning and as a shrewd administrator, Gagrani has managed to put big-ticket projects of all the chief ministers he has worked with on track without ruffling feathers in political circles.

(PTI)Dr Bhushan Gagrani, the 1990-batch IAS officer who will be the new Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner, comes to the job with the rare record of working in the offices of three successive chief ministers of Maharashtra: Devendra Fadnavis, Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde.
The additional chief secretary-rank officer was one of the key officers in Shinde’s office. In fact, he has worked in the offices of six chief ministers of Maharashtra and comes with vast experience in urban development.
Known for his low-profile style of functioning and as a shrewd administrator, Gagrani has managed to put big-ticket projects of all the chief ministers he has worked with on track without ruffling feathers in political circles.
With an all-India third rank, Gagrani was the first IAS officer to have cleared the examination in Marathi language. A postgraduate from Kolhapur’s Shivaji University, he also holds an LLB and MBA degree from University of Birmingham. He has a PhD in management from Mumbai University.
Gagrani has held positions in tourism, medical education, public health department, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) and Urban Development department.
