An intern at King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital has complained against his seniors for humiliating him. Gunwant Jadhal,25,has been admitted to the psychiatric ward for counselling.
Jadhal,an intern working with the pediatric ward at the hospital,on Monday stated in his complaint to the dean that his seniors have been humiliating him and it may force him to commit suicide. Jadhal further wrote that a senior resident,Dhananjay Patil, and an associate professor had been harassing and humiliating him.
In his letter,he complained that they had threatened to hold back his completion certificate, thus forcing him to repeat his one-year internship. Dr Sanjay Oak,Dean,KEM Hospital told Newsline,It was a horrible interaction between him and his seniors. He added,There is a lot of pressure on doctors. They are all under stress. The intern must have not swiftly acted on the requirements.
However, the dean of the hospital has set up a three-member committee to probe into the matter and has asked the intern to take a break.
I have asked the boy to take a break and go back home for a few days and resume work in some other department. A three-member committee will look into this matter, added Oak.
Jadhal said,I was directed to Dr Bhosle who is heading the inqury committee. He asked me questions. On the advice of the psychiatrist,I got admitted to the psychiatric ward for counselling because I am disturbed by the humiliation.
Quashing the reports of ragging,Dr Sanjay Oak said,It is not a case of ragging as he is not a fresher. He has studied as well as worked with the KEM Hospital.
