IMD issues yellow alert for Mumbai, adjoining regions as rain set to return
In its forecast, the weather bureau has maintained that Mumbai along with its adjoining districts will experience light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and gusty winds.

Indicating a return of monsoon showers after a dry spell that lasted for more than three weeks, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its five day forecast has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts between August 12 (Tuesday) and August 13 (Wednesday).
In its forecast, the weather bureau has maintained that Mumbai along with its adjoining districts will experience light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and gusty winds.
“At present, there is an interaction of dry and moist winds that have rekindled the chances of good rainfall over Mumbai. At the beginning of August we usually record a dry patch every year, following which the moderate rainfall picks up again,” an official said on Monday.
According to the weather bureau, Mumbai’s Santacruz observatory recorded 7 mm of rainfall between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm on Monday, while the coastal observatory at Colaba had recorded 8 mm of rain during this period. The weather bureau’s data furthermore shows that both the observatories recorded a maximum (day) temperature above normal levels leading to increase in humidity. The IMD’s data show that both Santacruz and Colaba recorded a day temperature of 31.6 degrees each, which was above normal ranges by 1.8 degrees and 1.6 degrees.
Rainfall patterns in Mumbai have shown noticeable fluctuations from the last week of July. Over the weekend between August 8-10, the city experienced intermittent showers, with the IMD’s Colaba observatory recording 1.6 mm and Santacruz logging 3.1 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on August 10. Since the onset of the monsoon on June 1, cumulative rainfall has reached 998 mm at Colaba and 1,366 mm at Santacruz. IMD issues yellow alert for Mumbai, adjoining regions as rain set to return
