IIT Bombay continues to remain most preferred centre, all top 10 rank holders of JEE-Advanced take admission

Last year too, IIT Bombay had emerged as the most preferred choice among IITs for the top rankers of JEE-Advanced.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay continues to emerge as the most preferred choice for admission among top-rankers of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) – Advanced, the competitive entrance test for IITs. In a trend, identical to last year, all top ten rankers from JEE-Advanced have taken admission to IIT Bombay, shows data.

The premier technology institute of international repute on Tuesday declared data of top 1,000 rankers of JEE-Advanced who chose IIT Bombay for different Under Graduate (UG) programmes.

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) in July concluded the counselling rounds for admission to various UG courses across IITs for academic year 2024-25. Even as IIT Madras was the organising IIT this year for JoSAA, it did not declare any information related to the seat allocations.

However, according to data released by the IIT Bombay, pertaining to who among the top 1,000 rankers of JEE-Advanced chose IIT Bombay, all top ten candidates took admission to IIT Bombay. This trend continues with 24 out of top 25 choosing IIT Bombay, 47 out of top 50, 72 out of top 100 and 179 out of top 500 taking admission to IIT Bombay.

Welcoming the new entrants, the Institute Director Prof. Shireesh Kedare said, “I am proud that IIT Bombay remains the preferred destination for most of the top rankers in the JEE (Advanced) examination. We welcome the students and congratulate them for having selected the best educational path, suited to their aspirations and goals.”

Last year too, IIT Bombay had emerged as the most preferred choice among IITs for the top rankers of JEE-Advanced. In the academic year 2023-24, 67 out of top 100 bagged the seat in IIT Bombay. Whereas, a year before that, during admissions for academic year 2022-23, 69 out of top 100 had chosen IIT Bombay. In all these years, all top ten rankers from JEE-Advanced have chosen IIT Bombay.

This year, (2024-25), among 246 of the top 1,000 JEE-Advanced rankers choosing IIT Bombay, there are 217 boys and 29 girls. “Top rankers of the JEE-Advanced are considered the cream of IIT aspirants and IIT Bombay has been the most preferred choice for them for the past few years. This shift which began almost a decade ago has continued as it is until now; with most of the top-rankers choosing Computer Science Engineering (CSE) at IIT Bombay, a most sought-after combination for all IIT aspirants,” said a former JoSAA member from IIT Bombay, adding that other IITs opted for by top rankers are IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur and IIT Madras.
