Despite a cold wave prevailing across north India,Mumbai has remained unusually humid since the New Year. The Met department on Tuesday said that while the western disturbances were influencing the northern regions,the flow of northerly winds into Maharashtra has been insignificant so far.
Usually,ther is an influx of northerly winds blow in the state at this time of the year. However,since last week,certain developments over the Arabian Sea changed the wind direction bringing in south to south easterly winds here. As a result the humidity has risen since December 31, a duty officer at the India Meteorological Department said.
The maximum temperatures in Mumbai touched 30.5 and 29.1 degrees,while the minimum hovered around 18.5 and 20°C in Santacruz and Colaba respectively on Tuesday. While moderate humidity 53 percent and 60 percent in the suburbs and city ¿ was recorded in the day,Monday night saw a high degree of moisture in the air at 85 and 96 per cent at the two stations respectively. IMD officials said that the maximum temperature was two degrees higher than the seasons normal.
Across Maharashtra,the weather remained above normal,though regions of north Konkan saw the minimum temperatures dipping considerably on Monday,IMD stated. Officials forecast that the weatehr would remain warm throughout the week in Mumbai but the weekend may witness a drop in temperature.
