Shiv Sena (UBT) president and former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday slammed the ruling BJP over India’s scheduled cricket match with Pakistan in the Asia Cup, alleging that it has been allowed at the behest of ICC president Jay Shah, son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

“It is good that people are on streets for pigeons, dogs and elephants. But what happens to this empathy when it comes to victims of Pahalgam? Our PM had claimed that blood and water cannot flow together. The defence minister says Operation Sindoor is still ongoing. How can you give permission to the Indian team to play cricket with Pakistan? Has your hot Sindoor now become a cold drink? Weren’t you distributing Sindoor in every house? What happened to that? Our Army showed valour and the BJP is taking credit for it…this BJP has no shame left,” said Thackeray.

“We sent our delegations across the world. What was the response? Nobody knows. Has at least one country stood by us? Did a single country stand by us? Are we going to send a delegation now to foreign countries, telling them why we are going to play cricket with Pakistan?” he asked.

Thackeray said that the match is being played for the sake of Jay Shah, son of Amit Shah. “Who is he? Is he bigger than those who were martyred in the war or those citizens who were killed? You preach us that blood and water cannot flow together, then how come cricket and blood is seen together? It is unfortunate that we are finding games bigger than the country. This is not the Bharatiya Janata Party. This the Bogus Janata Party,” he said, asking why India cannot take a stand to not play cricket with Pakistan until terrorism is stopped.

Thackeray also appealed to the BJP to show some spine as a country. “We saw China helping Pakistan in its resistance. Is Pakistan our enemy? Is China our enemy? Now, (Ajit) Doval and (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi are going to China. What should the citizens do? It seems this is why one should always go to school,” Thackeray said.

Addressing the members of the party’s teachers’ union, Thackeray said that the first task they should take up is to stop the vote theft by checking the voters’ list. “They (BJP) cannot win if elections are held honestly. Rahul Gandhi has exposed how they won Maharashtra elections,” Thackeray said.

Earlier, slamming PM Modi over his statement in Bihar, where he said that the Opposition was coming together to protect the corrupt and infiltrators, Thackeray said, “Every person against whom you made allegations of corruption is now with you. You are the one who is giving deputy CM posts to corrupt ones. You are the one who is giving asylum to Bangladesh’s former PM. And why are you blaming us for encouraging infiltration?”
