Hit by builder’s car at Marine Drive, biker dies

Kadam suffered severe injuries to the head and neck in the accident, the police said.

A 24-year-old man, whose motorcycle was hit at Marine Drive late Thursday night by a Mercedes car driven by prominent city builder, died at Bombay Hospital Friday afternoon, the police said.

The deceased, Mayur Kadam, a resident of Ghodpadeo, worked as a production assistant with Marathi film actress Trupti Bhoir.

Police said Kadam was driving towards NCPA at 11.15 pm when the car hit his motorcycle from behind near the entrance of the Oberoi Trident hotel. The car is owned by Kunal Vardhan, joint managing director at Neelam Realtors, which constructed Atria Mall in Worli.

Kadam suffered severe injuries to the head and neck in the accident, the police said.

They said Vardhan accompanied Kadam to Bombay Hospital and even paid for his treatment. “Kadam was very badly injured and the passersby hailed a taxi and took him to the hospital. At the hospital, Vardhan paid Rs 2 lakh for treatment,” said Ravindra Shisve, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone I.

Bhoir said an eye-witness picked up Kadam’s phone and called her. “I was in Chennai when I got the call. Immediately, I informed Kadam’s family and friends.”

One of Kadam’s friends said Vardhan left the hospital after a few hours. “He paid for the treatment and even gave us his phone number. The constable present at the hospital allowed him to leave at 3 am,” said Michael Shah.
