HC relief to in-service doctors

Bombay High Court (HC) told the state government Thursday to put on hold a “last-minute” resolution denying 25 per cent reservation in PG medical courses to doctors who have served in rural areas.

Bombay High Court (HC) told the state government Thursday to put on hold a “last-minute” resolution denying 25 per cent reservation in PG medical courses to doctors who have served in rural areas.

HC was hearing a bunch of petitions by in-service doctors challenging the government resolution of July 2 allowing quota in PG diploma courses but not in PG degree courses.

Justices V M Kanade and K R Shriram questioned the change of rule. It said such last-minute changes created uncertainty and frustrated students. The petitioners cited provisions of law that require the government to make such policy changes at least six months before the start of PG courses.
