To ensure safe Ganpati visarjan on Sunday, the traffic police are short listing five most important Ganpati Mandals in every zone whose vehicles would be fitted with Global Positioning System (GPS) devices and cameras so that the police can follow the procession from the starting point.

With GPS and camera system, the police will not only keep a watch on movement of these vehicles but also their surroundings.

The traffic police have decided to shortlist 25-50 vehicles that would carry Ganesh idols of the important mandals in the city.

“We are using this system for the first time. Only the vehicles of the most important mandals will be fitted with video cameras,” said Brijesh Singh,Additional Commissioner of Police (traffic).

The traffic police have also given specific route instructions to each mandal. If any mandal’s vehicle drifts from the route during the final procession, the traffic officials will receive an alert.

“As the GPS installed vehicle move down the street, its location will be flashed along with the timings with the help of live maps,” added Singh.
