“Since it is important to highlight the significance of the weapon, a decision has been taken to declare it as a state of weapon of Maharashtra,” he said, adding that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde gave an approval to declare the ‘danpatta’ the state weapon at the Shivaji Jayanti celebrations at Agra fort on Monday.

Apart from Shinde and Mungantiwar, Deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar also attended the event.

Forged in medieval India, the gauntlet sword was commonly used in the 17th and 18th centuries when the Maratha empire came into prominence and was used in many wars.
