The Maharashtra government cancelled a Government Resolution (GR) issued on Thursday that disallowed police personnel from constable to police inspector ranks to encash 15 annual leaves after intervention by Maharashtra DGP Rashmi Shukla, sources said. While the Home department issued the GR on Thursday, on Friday they issued another GR stating that the earlier order was cancelled.

An official in the Maharashtra Home Department said, ” After several complaints from the lower rung officers reached the DGP, she intervened and after discussions with the Home Minister a decision was taken to cancel the earlier GR and an order to that effect was issued on Friday.”

On Friday, the GR cancelling the facility of encashing annual leaves said, “According to the Seventh Pay Commission, there has been a substantial increase in the wages of police personnel as well as other government employees. Considering the nature and importance of work of officers/employees in the Police Force, they were granted casual leave of 20 days and additional earned leave of 15 days, with concession of encashment.”

It added, ” Taking into consideration all the above considerations, the exemption granted to Police Force officers as an exception is being partially modified. Police Constable to Police Inspector will be admissible additional earned leave of 15 days every year, but the concession of encashment of leave is being cancelled.
