On Monday, the special court hearing the case was informed that the state government has cancelled Gharat's appointment.

The state government has cancelled the appointment of lawyer Pradip Gharat as a special public prosecutor in the case lodged by the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi government against Independent lawmakers MP Navneet Rana and her husband MLA Ravi Rana.
They were booked for allegedly resisting arrest and obstructing police, who had visited their Khar residence last year after the couple announced that they will chant the Hanuman Chalisa at the private residence of then chief minister Uddhav Thackeray.
On Monday, the special court hearing the case was informed that the state government has cancelled Gharat’s appointment.
Last year, after the Eknath Shinde government came to power in the state, it had cancelled Gharat’s appointment in other cases as well, including in a cheating case lodged against BJP leader Mohit Kambhoj, a case registered Union minister and BJP leader Narayan Rane and another against BJP leader Kirit Somaiya.
The Shinde government, however, had appointed Gharat as the special public prosecutor last year in the custodial death case of Khwaja Yunus.
