Goods wagons derail,local trains disrupted

The local train services were disrupted between Karjat and Bhivpuri on Tuesday after three wagons of a goods train derailed.

The local train services were disrupted between Karjat and Bhivpuri on Tuesday after three wagons of a goods train derailed.

According to Shriniwas Mudgerikar, chief spokesperson,Central Railway (CR),the incident occurred around 10.30 am. Three wagons of a loaded good train heading for Panvel from Karjat derailed. But one of the containers fell on the electric wires and this affected the electricity supply on the Karjat-Bhivpuri section. Three lines converge at Karjat — one towards Mumbai, second to Pune and third to Pune converge at Panvel. The Panvel section is used for transporting goods.

This also affected the suburban trains and services between Bhivpuri and Karjat were suspended as there was no electric supply. “The trains were operational till Bhivpuri for some time,” said Mudgerikar.

Even the long-distance trains were slightly affected by the derailment as the speed of these trains had to be reduced between these two stations. “Since the section was without electrify for some time, the local trains could not be run between these two stations. But the long-distance trains, which run on diesel engine, were little affected,” Mudgerikar said.

The CR had to bring the brake down rake to clear the derailed wagons, which took almost six hours. It also took time to restore the electric supply and begin the suburban services.

“The line was cleared around 4.30 pm and the services on the line commenced an hour later,” said A K Singh, spokesperson,CR.
