Ten year old Neel Roy of Khar Gymkhana established two new meet records while winning a remarkable six gold that earned him the individual championship in the 29th Otters Open Swimming & Diving Championship at the Otters Club,Bandra.
Following nine-year-old Kenisha Guptas sensational effort on the opening day,Roys performance on the second and concluding day of the meet ensured glory for the little-known sub juniors,amidst a host of established swimmers. Roy,the national 100m freestyle gold medalist,burst onto the scene with new meet records in the 50m freestyle and 200m individual medley for boys under-11 and added the 50m breast stroke,butterfly,backstroke and 4×50 freestyle relay gold for a complete domination. In his quest for glory,Roy,a student at Arya Vidya Mandir,Bandra staved off stiff competition from arch-rival and club mate Ishaan Nagarkatti who finished second in the breast,back and individual medley and third in the butterfly.
