MMRDA seeks bids for expansion of Ghodbunder Road

(File Photo)/Representational)In a move to address severe traffic congestion on Ghodbunder Road in Thane, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has issued a tender for an ambitious road expansion project. The initiative aims to reduce the extensive gridlock.
The proposed project was approved for tendering process earlier this month, during a meeting by the MMRDA, chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The proposed development involves the construction of a 15.5-kilometre stretch from Gaimukh in Thane to Bhayandar. The project will feature a dual approach: an underground tunnel from Gaimukh to the Fountain Hotel Junction and an elevated road extending from the Fountain Hotel Junction to Bhayandar.
With a projected cost of approximately Rs 20,000 crore, it is designed to handle the increasing volume of traffic.
Prospective contractors must submit an earnest money deposit of Rs 41.14 crore for the tunnel construction and Rs 28.48 crore for the elevated road work. Each segment of the project must be completed within a four-and-a-half years, which includes a two-year defect liability period.
A pre-bid meeting is scheduled for August 8 at the MMRDA office in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and the deadline for bid submissions is set for September 19.
