The civic body also floated tenders to provide amenities, including toilets and electricity, at all polling stations. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, who has been appointed District Returning Officer, on Thursday directed returning officers to conduct inspections of polling stations across the city before the final voter list is prepared for the upcoming elections.
At a meeting with returning officers and senior civic officials, including additional municipal commissioner Ashwini Joshi, joint municipal commissioner Vijay Balamwar as well as officials from the collector’s ffice, Gagrani directed the officials to conduct site inspections of all the polling stations.
After inspection, officers were told to prepare voters’ list and establish a help centre at polling stations for the voters. The civic body also floated tenders to provide amenities, including toilets and electricity, at all polling stations.
Gagrani also directed police as well as excise departments to ensure that all guidelines of the model code of conduct are adhered to. “Regular patrolling, vehicle inspections as well as special vigilance should be ensure in sensitive areas. Strict vigilance should be taken to prevent malpractices,” he told officials.
State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare announced polling across 29 municipal corporations, including the BMC, on January 16 and counting the next day.
Mumbai will have nearly 10,111 polling stations. To ensure smooth conduct of elections, at least 23 returning officers have been deployed across 23 administrative wards.
