FYJC admissions: 3rd merit list out; jump in cut-offs for popular colleges
A total of 1,44,186 students had applied for seats under the third round of FYJC admissions.

As the third merit list for the First Year Junior College (FYJC) or Class 11 admissions were declared Wednesday, cut-offs for popular city colleges recorded a jump compared to the second merit list. According to college authorities, this was expected as there are lesser seats for third merit list, but applications continue to remain large in numbers.
At Mumbai’s popular H R College for commerce, the second merit list had closed at 93 per cent. But the cut-off has jumped to 98.20 per cent in the third merit list.
Similarly, in another renowned commerce college in the city – R A Podar college, the cut-off for third merit list was 97 per cent — a considerable jump from 92.80 in the second merit list.
Irrespective of the stream, the trend remains the same across colleges.
At St. Xavier’s college, which is most sought after for Arts stream, FYJC cut-off for the third merit list has closed at 96 per cent, while it was 94 per cent in second merit list.
At Ramnivas Ruia Junior College, which closed admission for Science at 91.80 per cent in the second merit list; the cut-off has jumped to 96.20 percent in the third merit list.
As per colleges, however, this was expected as most of the seats are filled by the end of the second merit list.
Principal of H R College Dr. Pooja Ramchandani said, “Only two students were allotted seats in this third merit list, at our college. This is because all other seats are full. The cut-off was expected to see a jump as with fewer seats the competition gets tough.”
A total of 1,44,186 students had applied for seats under the third round of FYJC admissions. Out of this, 57,147 were allotted seats in this round and 16,979 out of those bagged seats in their first-preferred college.
Commerce stream has seen the highest allotments with 34,022 students. This is followed by Science with 17,934 students and only 4,862 students were allotted seats in Arts.
