Friend who found Vodafone exec dead has been crying since: cops

A woman constable deputed to be with her all the time said Rastogi was severely shaken. “She has been crying for the past three days. She says she has no idea why Iyer committed suicide,” said a police officer,who did not want to be named.

Sources said Rastogi is apparently on good terms with Iyer’s family and had contacted them in Delhi after finding the body. The officer added Rastogi’s two cellphones had been seized and the police were going through call records.

At the police station,Ankita’s father Mahendra Rastogi,waiting with packaged lunch for her,claimed he was unaware why she was being questioned at length. “We have not been told anything by the police and are in the dark about the enquiry,” he said,without commenting further.

Senior Police Inspector Madhukar Chaudhari of Santacruz police station said,“Rastogi had been staying at a hotel in Powai and we had sent a team there to conduct a search. We have not unearthed any clue there either,which may point to any involvement on her part.”

Rastogi,who stays in Delhi and had worked with Vodafone for a decade before joining another service provider,had found the body hanging from the ceiling when she visited Iyer on Friday morning. Police said she frequently visited Mumbai on work and would occasionally drop in at Iyer’s place for a chat. A day before the suicide,Rastogi had visited Iyer and left at night,they said.
