Four persons sustained minor injuries in three separate cases of structural collapses in the city. The first report came from Dharavi’s 90-feet road when one person was injured after a slab collapsed at a ground-plus-one storey structure on Saturday morning. Two others were injured in a case of partial collapse at Deonar, while one minor was injured in another case of crash at Chembur’s Siddharth Nagar.
The first incident was reported at 8.45 am in Balaji Nagar near Dharavi police station. According to civic officers, the front portion of the structure’s first floor had collapsed. They attributed the collapse to heavy downpour and its old age.
Speaking to The Indian Express, a senior civic official said, “On inspection, we found that the structure was extremely old. We have removed the dangerous portions of the building.” In a bid to prevent further mishaps, the BMC has vacated the structure. The injured person has been identified as Priya Silva Raj (45). Soon after the incident was reported, the Mumbai Fire Brigade was called to rescue the persons feared trapped. After Priya Silva Raj was rescued from the debris, she was taken to Sion Hospital. The hospital said she had sustained minor injuries.
Meanwhile, in another case reported on Saturday afternoon, a minor identified as Ganesh Kamble (12) was injured in a case of slab collapse at Chembur’s Siddharth Colony. The 12-year-old was admitted at Rajawadi Hospital, due to minor injuries.
Meanwhile, in a similar incident, a portion of the first floor of a structure situated at Deonar’s Suhasini chawl came crashing down on two persons who were injured and taken to Shatabdi Hospital. The injured have been identified as Meena Gupta (45) and Ram Sevak (52).
The data furnished by the civic body showed that till 6pm on Saturday, six cases of structural collapses were reported in the city.
