Four constables and cab driver save 56-year-old woman from jumping off Atal Setu bridge

The police said that the incident took place at around 7.15pm on Friday following which the woman was taken to the police station in Navi Mumbai and her family members were alerted.

A 56-year-old woman from Mulund, who was trying to end her life by jumping in the sea from Atal Bihari Vajpayee Trans Harbour Link bridge, was saved by four police constable along with a driver of a tourist car.

The police said that the incident took place at around 7.15pm on Friday following which the woman was taken to the police station in Navi Mumbai and her family members were alerted.

An officer said, “The Nhava Sheva Traffic Branch Patrolling One got a call that a vehicle has stopped on the Atal Setu bridge on the road heading to Shelghar Toll Naka and a woman is doing something by crossing the railing of the bridge.”

A team was instantly dispatched and as soon as the team reached the spot, the woman jumped into the sea but the driver of the cab held her by her hair following which the four constables brought her back on the road.

The police have identified the woman as Reema Patel. She is a housewife and a resident of Mulund. “We are trying to understand her problem that pushed her to take her own life,” an officer added.
