Machimar Colony resident Anita Rajendra Udaiyya,47,who was one of the first witnesses to spot the 26/11 terrorists at Badhwar Park, has gone missing for the past couple of days, claim her family members. Udaiyya had reportedly told her family members last week that she would have to go away for sometime and went missing early on Sunday morning. But she had apparently visited her husband, who is admitted at St Georges Hospital, the same morning before going missing. My mother had earlier gone with Crime Branch officials to identify the bodies of the terrorists and constantly kept reiterating over the past week that someone would summon her soon and that preparations are being made for her to go away for some time. However, despite our repeated attempts, she refused to tell us who would take her away and for what purpose. The whole of Saturday we were all together talking and on Sunday morning,at around 6 am,she went to the toilet located outside and never returned, said Seema Ketan Joshi,25,Udaiyyas eldest daughter who stays with her husband at Virar. After scouring the entire neighbourhood, the frantic family approached the Cuffe Parade police station and a missing persons complaint was filed. Police Sub-Inspector Sunil Vipat of Cuffe Parade police station said,We have alerted all police stations of the city and have even shown Udaiyyas photograph on Doordarshan. We are yet to find any clues in the case. Senior Crime Branch officials, who are leading the investigations into the attacks, refused to comment. Meanwhile,Udaiyyas family members and neighbours continue to be on the lookout and are worried that she might have been endangered because of her involvement in the 26/11 probe. Udaiyya, who worked as a cleaning lady at Badhwar Park, had been sitting outside her house when she saw the terrorists walk past. According to Madhusudan Nair,Chairman of the colony, her dog had barked at them and she had casually asked who they were, only to be warned to mind her own business. Nair said that when Udaiiya had told him that she would be going away,he suspected that it was a part of the probe. We had spoken a couple of days before her disappearance when she told me that she would be required to leave the country for some time. She also claimed that her passport was being drawn up. As she had been to the Crime Branch several times and returned,I assumed that this was part of the same process. However, she suddenly disappeared and continues to be untraceable; now we are worried about her safety, he said. Meanwhile, there was another incident today which aggravated the family members already frayed tempers they found that the only cell phone was stolen from the house. When we were speaking to reporters assembled outside our door, someone stole the only cell phone in our house. It was the only number through which my mother could have kept in touch with us and now it is gone, said Seema.
