No casualties were reported in the incident as officials stated that the area was an inactive work site.
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the fire call was reported at 4.21 pm on Tuesday near the Priyadarshini Park at Napean Sea Road.
The spot of the fire consisted of a temporary set up similar to a porta cabin, which once catered as seating and resting space for labourers working on the coastal road tunnels.
However, since the completion of the tunnel work, the site had been inactive and served as a storage area containing labourer materials such as jackets, gloves etc.
Being an inactive site, no labourers were present when the fire broke out, ensuring that casualties were reported in the incident. While the prima facie cause points to a short circuit in the cabin, the exact cause of the fire is yet to be investigated and ascertained.
