Extradited from Malaysia: Navi Mumbai police get custody of global narco kingpin Chinchkar

An official from Navi Mumbai police said, “We sought Chinchkar’s custody from the court that remanded him to our custody till Monday. Along with Chinchkar, another accused P Pandey, one of his main suppliers too has been remanded to our custody.”

NEARLY TWO weeks after he was extradited to India from Malaysia, alleged international drug kingpin Naveen Chinchkar’s custody was secured by the Navi Mumbai police on Wednesday.

Chinchkar was extradited to India in connection with an offence that the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had registered in January and was in the custody of the NCB till Tuesday following which the Navi Mumbai police secured his custody on Wednesday. An FIR registered by the police, named him as a wanted accused.

An official from Navi Mumbai police said, “We sought Chinchkar’s custody from the court that remanded him to our custody till Monday. Along with Chinchkar, another accused P Pandey, one of his main suppliers too has been remanded to our custody.”

An official said that Chinchkar had a well oiled international network and had in the past allegedly smuggled cocaine bricks to India after procuring them from Colombian cartels. The police are still investigating if his younger brother is anyway linked to his drug network.

Incidentally, in April, Gurunath, Navin’s father committed suicide at his Navi Mumbai residence and alleged harassment meted out by investigating agencies.

In April last week, Navi Mumbai police said that it busted an international drug network linked to Navi Mumbai with the arrest of 10 persons. Those arrested include a customs superintendent, two Navi Mumbai cops, two hawala operators and five others. It was in connection with this case that Navi Mumbai police had recorded statement of builder Gurunath Chichkar who committed suicide alleging police harassment last week. Police later named Navin Chinchkar as a wanted accused in the case.

Next month, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) secured deportation of Navin Chichkar from Malaysia on May 28 in connection with a case they had registered in January.

The case in which he was deported began with the seizure of about 200 grams of cocaine hidden in a projector from a parcel being sent from Mumbai to Australia through DHL courier on January 21, 2025. During further investigation, NCB further affected seizure of 11.540 kilograms of cocaine, 4.9 kg cannabis and 5.5 kg cannabis gummies from the house of one of the members of the syndicate in Navi Mumbai.
