Ex-Congress MLA Shaikh Rasheed passes away

Rasheed had represented Malegaon Central for two terms in 1999 and 2004 and was instrumental in helping the Congress break the Janata Dal's three-decade-long grip on the polity of the city.

Former Congress MLA from Malegaon Shaikh Rasheed passed away in Nashik on Monday. He was 69 years old.

Rasheed had represented Malegaon Central for two terms in 1999 and 2004 and was instrumental in helping the Congress break the Janata Dal’s three-decade-long grip on the polity of the city.

He had also served as mayor of Malegaon. His son Shaikh Asif was elected on a Congress ticket in 2014. The family had however gradually drifted away from the Congress with Asif joining the NCP recently.

Shaikh Rasheed was suffering from age related ailments and passed away at a hospital in Nashik.
