‘Elections will be held on schedule’

Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) honorary secretary Souter Vaz expressed disappointment over the decision of the charity commissioner to postpone the meeting of the executive council but vowed that the elections will be held as scheduled.

Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) honorary secretary Souter Vaz expressed disappointment over the decision of the charity commissioner to postpone the meeting of the executive council but vowed that the elections will be held as scheduled.

Following a complaint by the four MDFA officials, the charity commissioner passed an order dated June 6 that the executive committee meeting of the MDFA,that was scheduled to be held on the same day,be postponed till the main application under Section 41-A of the Bombay Public Trust is finally decided.

Vaz said the decision can have an impact on the forthcoming season. “The meeting was called only to finalise the rules and format of the upcoming season. We should have started the third division matches 10 days ago. The delay will only prolong the season,” he said.

Vaz added that the elections will be held as scheduled. “As per article 12 of the MDFA constitution, any outgoing committee can be in charge for up to six months from the day the actual term expires. The AGM can be called six months after the end of the financial year and we have assured our members that the elections will be held in September. This right,to continue for six months after the term is over,is given to us by the constitution,” Vaz said, adding: “Without meeting, how can we have elections. Even if the accounts have to be passed by the executive committee,we have to call the meeting. I hope they consider these points.”
