Drunk man found dead in water drum

A 46-year-old man,reportedly inebriated,was found dead in a water drum at his Malwani residence on Saturday.

Malwani police said the deceased,Balaraj Venkatesh,was a resident of Malwani in Malad west. His 21-year-old son had found the bathroom locked from inside on Saturday morning. On getting no response to his knocks,he woke up his mother and they broke open the door,only to find Venkanesh drowned in the water drum. He was rushed to Bhagwati Hospital,where he was declared brought dead.

The hospital staff have informed police that Venkatesh was under the influence of alcohol. Police said Venkatesh,a daily wage labour,stayed with his wife Neeta,son and two younger daughters and the couple used to fight regularly over trivial issues.

On Friday night,Venkatesh had returned home in an inebriated condition and picked up a fight with Neeta. An irked Neeta had gone to sleep with her children. Senior police inspector S Shaikh said,Venkatesh had gone to the bathroom after the fight. He apparently got into the drum himself. Since he was drunk,he must have fallen asleep.

The police have registered a case of unnatural death.
