An executive in a security company recently found that a little carelessness on his part helped his driver to rob his money safe. Chembur resident Vikrant Chaudhry,a chief information officer with a security company, had dropped the key to his money safe in his car, which was used by his cook-cum-driver to access the safe and rob it of its cash and valuables worth Rs one lakh.
The RCF police, who had registered a case of robbery against the servant Vikramsinh Deol (25) on February 6,arrested him last week.
According to the police,Deol had then called up Chaudhry, cited an emergency back home in Rajasthan and requested a few days leave. Unaware of Deols actions,Chauhan had granted him leave and it was only when he returned home that he discovered the cash was missing. Immediately after the complaint was filed,a team of RCF police officials left for Rajasthan.
Using his cell phones IMEI,number we followed him to Rajasthan,Madhya Pradesh,Ratlam before finally nabbing him at Mira Road. He was evading us by keeping his cell phone switched off during intervals and despite our inter-state chase we couldnt arrest him. Finally, when his location was traced to an electronic appliances shop at Mira Road,we realised that he must have gone there to make purchases, said Assistant Police Inspector Rajesh Kewale, who led the team.
He had already purchased some electronic appliances with the stolen money and we have recovered them from him, he added.
