When Delhi-based designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil Mehra recently held a preview of their new collection under the bridge brand,S&N Drape, their Bollywood friends made it a point to come calling. The effervescent Kajol, followed by actors Dia Mirza and Aditi Rao-Hydari,turned up to check out the store. Located at Bandra’s 24th road, this 800-square foot store is much smaller than their earlier outlet, which was located just two blocks away.

“That was our flagship store. Given that it was housing our pret and couture lines,we ensured that it was spacious. But now,we have decided to focus on our labels separately, starting with this bridge brand; hence, the smaller area,” clarifies Shantanu.

As the label name suggests,S&N Drape comprises a wide array of dresses and gowns, all of which use the Indian drape in a modern setting. “Mumbai is a big market for evening wear and this diffusion range is ideal for women who lead busy social lives,” emphasises Nikhil. Keeping the spring summer season in mind, the colours range from orange and yellow to red, gold and white, while the fabrics used are silk and satin.

The decor of the store is rather minimal which,in turn, lets the clothes do the talking. Sequins and prints — especially the black-and-white Kathakali dance motif printed on their dresses — are eye-catching,even though the former dominate the line.

Starting at Rs 12,500 and going up to Rs 58,000,the clothes are priced rather steeply. But the duo insists that the ‘edgy and glamorous’ collection is meant for the woman of today.

“For those who are keen on checking out our high-end line,we have a small corner dedicated to our core label,Shantanu & Nikhil,” says Shantanu.
