Dossa Bhai leaves his mark,as attacker and godfather

“Dossa is a flamboyant man. In 2004,he secured a court order allowing him sheer-khurma inside jail. Since the court in its order did not mention it was only for him,he ordered sheer-khurma for all prison inmates and officials,”a jail source said.

Over the years,he won the loyalty of several prisoners from different gangs,using money power. “Several inmates said to be linked with the Ejaz Pathan gang shifted loyalties to Dossa,as he ensured a daily supply of necessities,” the source said.

Dossa himself is alleged to be a Dawood Ibrahim aide. He was deported from Dubai and arrested for the 1993 blasts.

Dossa is entitled to home food; sources said his daily dabba resembles a mini-treat,with enough for at least three people.

Dossa is the second of three brothers; his wife and two children have gold and electronics businesses in the UAE. They hardly come to meet him. A source said in the early stages of his imprisonment,when his wife Safia used to meet him in prison,she would be decked in gold and arrive in a luxury car.

A prisoner said,“He is not aggressive,like a businessman he orders people to work for him. The assault on Salem is a surprise to many like me who know him. He led a life that would be normal for any person outside. He could afford all luxuries,like a separate sleeping area,24-hour water and medicines when required.”

Dossa’s lawyer Rizwan Merchant said “He suffers from heart ailments and had to undergo angioplasty at Lilavati Hospital. There still are three blockages.”

“Thanks to his money power,even the shift to Thane jail cannot stop him getting the luxuries he is used to,” a source said.

The Crime Branch has got Dossa’s custody from the TADA court in a case relating to an attempted murder.
